My toilet does not have a tank, it's more like something you would see in a public restroom, with a pipe going from the toilet directly into the wall. Problem is, when I flush, water comes out of the pipe that goes to the wall, and it sounds like a dying animal as for about five minutes after I flush. Also, I can no longer flush by pushing the handle down. Instead, I have to pull the handle up, left or right (not a big deal, but something's obviously wrong.) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like you have a Sloan or American standard flush valve,
do you own the house ? or rent, if rent tell the landlord,
if you own, shut the water off to it, at the top there is a thing that looks like a nut, this will remove the top, inside is a rubber valve, replace it with the same number that's on it, there is also an air release rubber sleeve in the pipe section that has little slots cut in it, its a fairly hard job to get these all changed and not have any leaks, i would call a plumber if your not familiar with this type of flush valve,

Flushers in a public restrooms have a diaphram that controls the length and speed of the flush. I don't exactly know the type flusher you have but if its like a public flush valve replace the diaphram.
