I would say it's all the skeletons coming out of the GOP closets, together with the Bush administration's fiasco.

Greed! They can recover when the greediness of the Libs is exposed. It's an old song constantly being repeated. A pox on both their houses!

I'm not sure how you can support your theory that they've fallen, they're still definitely among the two most popular political parties in the US. If you're referring to their losing control of congress in the 2006 elections, I'm guessing it's because people believed the lies of the Democratic party more than they believed the lies of the Republican party. Also, I believe a number of GOP supporters are upset that putting the GOP in power didn't result in a downsizing of government, but rather more growth, and more intrusion on their private lives. For traditional conservatives the options have become more limited. Perhaps if Ron paul were to drop his Republican tag and run for the Libertarian nomination, he could garner more than 5% of the popular vote in 2008 and inject a 3rd party into American politics which also supports a number of conservative issues.

I don't agree with the premise of your question. The GOP did not experience a downfall. There is nothing to recover.

Corruption and Hypocrisy has ruined the Republican Party.
It probably will take at least 10 years for them to recover, provided they are not involved in any more scandals during that period.

pandering to special interest groups. the GOP has lost touch with it's grass roots. they are so busy worrying about how to take care of illegal immigrants, they have lost sight of the common man wanting the border closed. we are at war people - close the borders!!!!
