Yes and no. I don't necessarily keep track in the sense of "I did something for you, now you must do something for me." OTOH if I need a favor, I expect "consideration," depending upon what kind of favor I did them and what kind of favor I need.

No, I don't.
My husband and I decided years ago not to purchase gifts for the extended family. His family is so large. When we gather for the holidays there will be anywhere from 45 to 50 people.
We decided to supply the Christmas Dinner, everyone seems to enjoy our cooking. Last year we took over 200 Lobster, 50 lbs of shrimp and some alligator. This is besides the usual turkey and ham. It's a huge feast.
Ask anyone what the got for Christmas last year and they have a hard time remembering. They always remember the meal though:~)
Our son is 21 and lives in the Florida Keys, so money is what he prefers. I usually purchase gifts for the children. A niece that's 9 years old.

Never. Expectations bring disappointment. Giving without expectation brings peace to your heart.

No. The best gift you can give to yourself, is to give to others. I would never expect anything in return. Now, if I feel like you're taking advantage of me, I'll cut you off in a heartbeat.

I agree with applebeer, I am a very giving person just like my grandma was. I love knowing that I've made someone feel better or have brought some sunshine into their lives. All of my children are like that too and I'm so proud of them.

No, I regularly do volunteer activities: visit a nursing home, mtly prison volunteer, member of the local Humane Society, donate blood, etc. because I want to. I don't expect anything in return, I do it because I want to. I feel someone would be there for me or my family if we need them also.

Absolutely not!!! I give because of how good I feel in my heart to have been able to have helped someone. I neither expect nor want anything in return.

Of course not. That would be having a hidden agenda and ulterior motive. I would not consider that true giving at all.
To give from the heart because you can bless someone is what giving is all about.

To give means not to get back. I try always to give in hopes of no recognition ~ only then, do I feel like I truly gave.
