I believe that the recent team cheating discussions have been over-hyped and more. This is compleatly dumb and shouold not have so much hype. I think they should fee the patriots and leave it in the past. every team some how cheats but they dont get caught. i think it would be done to suspend bill belicheck for 2 games. does any one agree?

Rules are rules. I would not be surprised if every team has someone watching the opponent's sideline in the hopes of getting a clue as to what they are trying to do. You can't make people keep their eyes closed. However, there are rules against using any type of technology to "spy" on another team. If done properly, the advantage would be considerable. Like rising from nowhere with a nobody QB to win three SB's in four years-considerable. (Not that I can prove this has gone on that long, obviously, but you have to admit its suspicious. And if they didn't want people to question the validity of their wins, they shouldn't have begun this practice.) We all know, or are now reminded that they were quietly accused of the same thing by Green Bay last season, so the idea that this was a one time thing perpetrated by a rogue employee becomes difficult to believe.

Just as I believe the NFL must get tougher on players who break the rules (i.e., being convicted, or pleading guilty to crimes like Vick), the same goes for organizations. Bellicheck, very presumably behind this as he is behind anything the Pats do, should be suspended a few games, but not having the head coach at the game is a slap on the wrist in my opinion. Some are suggesting they forfeight the season, but I doubt that will happen because it rewards those teams set to play them, mine is included, and not the others. Taking draft picks seems fair, either a string of first rounders or at least keeping them out the first three rounds next year. The organization, not just the coach, needs to feel the repercussions.

Pats fans can say every team is trying something, we got caught, and that we're being made an example of, but so be it. I'd feel the same no matter the team, even mine. Don't you think its entirely possible another player is involved in dog fighting? Do you think that rationale should excuse Vick?

Following this crazy off-season, the NFL must take steps to keep its good name. Its time to institute harsher penalties, period.

Yes... this is overhyped. This is something that everyone in the league does & if they were to punish Belicheck for something that has become common practice in the NFL then they should go ahead and do the same for probably EVERY other team in the NFL. I do respect what Goodell has been trying to accomplish in the NFL though, so if he really feels that he needs to make an example out of Belicheck, and I say this with a heavy heart because I am a Pats fan, he should take away some draft picks and give the team a fine to show that he means business and that no team will be allowed to do this anymore without serious consequences. For me though, a Patriots fan, it is still hard to understand why Belicheck would think he would even need to see there defensive play calling considering that we could completely tear apart the Jets in the first place, but like I said... videotaping has become such common practice in the NFL that for most teams it's just become a safety precaution Oh yeah... and to the fella who mentioned "If your not cheating, your not trying.", well that would apparently make you a Charger fan since Ladanian Tomlinson said that and you had the Patriots getting some pretty heavy penalties for this whole thing. Gee... I wonder why. Couldn't be because we play you on Sunday and your Chargers happened to blow it last year in the playoffs? It's fans like you that drive me insane... haha. You hold grudges against teams that beat you even though it was the Chargers fault and mental errors that lost the game for your team... blame it on them. And your hypocritical too, because if your coach had been caught doing this you would of been preaching "Everyone does it" and abandon your whole statement on here. Hypocracy.... I guess it's what it's all about. Actually... I am gonna retract the punishment I said previously... I think Goodell should give him a firm warning & then tell him that if he's caught doing this again he will be suspended without pay and lose draft picks... I think everyone will get the point... because he would have to be stupid to try it again and would deserve to be punished because then obviously it would mean he thinks he is above the rules which I honestly believe Belicheck does not. Doesn't matter though... you suspend Belicheck the Patriots still win because they have their gameplan so FIRMLY implemented the Patriots wouldn't lose a step... although I still don't wanna find out... haha.

I think Belicheck should be punished cause hes the boss and nothing is done on that team without his knowledge. And that's that. But the players should remain left alone they just do what their told. Unfortunately they have a long way to go to gain peoples respect back. So they better get started and win some games without Belicheck and show their just as good without him and its the players that make the team. And by the way im a pats fan but believe in fair play so let the punishment be handed out and move on.

Having the "everyone else does it" attitude is what has tarnished professional sports. Do you believe that "if you're not cheating, you're not trying"? The game they cheat in should be forfeited and the revenues for that game taken away. Maybe make them ineligible for the playoffs. The playoffs are the bonus round for those teams that worked hard, were successful and played within the rules. The Pats fail on the third one. If the NFL does not police itself, it will be like MLB. No credibility. Right now the league is throwing out suggested punishments to decide what little the public, and media, will accept. I suspect all they will get is a little slap on the wrist. Or a pat on the butt.

Dude everything is freaking overhyped anymore its all about keeping the ratings and viewers on the edge and debating like you are here. I am sure they are not the only team that has done this, just the first to get caught. Fine them dock a draft pick and lets get ready for Week 2!!

And by the way if your out there Andy Reid get it in gear I mean losin to the Green Bay Packers I had to spend some time in meditation.

I agree. They should get over it already. They confiscated the tape so NE can't use it so fine them and get on with it. If there's no drama then people aren't happy. In the midst of the whole Vick thing though the league head people are going to make a big thing over this NE thing to show that they are not wimps and will hand down punishments. NE is a good team regardless. And no I am not a Pats fan - I don't have any favorite team, I just enjoy the game.

I think that Billichek should get suspended without pay for at least 8 games. It doesn't matter if all the other teams cheat or not. Like your parents always say are you a leader or a follower. Just because everybody jumps off a cliff that doesn't mean you should. He's a coach. He's supposed to be a mentor. What if your teacher got caught cheating on a test. What would you say. Your supposed to lead by example and by words.

If Michael Vick can go to jail for fighting some dogs and killing them, then Billichek should at least get suspended 8 games. He's cheating on his job and Vick wasn't, but they ruin Vick's life for killing some dogs like they are people, Billichek's life or at least season should get srewed up too.

Patriots have so many haters out there, that anything less than drawing and quartering Bill Belichick will be seen as light. Patriots will lose a 3rd and 4th rounders with BB getting suspended for 1 game, then the masses will cry outrage, then people will be focusing on week 2...and how fat Britney Spears is, or Linsey Lohan's latest rehab episode.

Yes...This should not be blown up as much as it is...If anything, the Patriots will get fined...If Belichick is suspended, that would just show how much even the LEAGUE is trying to knock down the Patriots, between last season's AFC Championship with the blown calls and now with some stupid cheating allegations...its called scouting...
