My fault entirely. Disc drawer of tower on computer opened ok and put in disc of my daughters wedding. Drawer didn't seem to go back in so I wrongly used force. It is now stuck. When pressing button to eject drawer there is noise but it doesn't move. Have tried loads of ways as in with my hands, carefully with letter opener etc, ensuring not causing further damage. What can I do? Who could I call out. I am pretty old and thick when it comes to computers but as it's the DVD drawer don't imagine it would be computer engineer. Help.....apart from anything else my daughter is going to kill me!!!

Thanks to all who are answering. Definitely no pin hole on this tower. It is Packard Bell, front all glossy black except for silver across to operate drawers etc. Under DVD drawer there is a pull down section. This only shows 2 oblong silver things underneath each other and across the way below a pink and green hole, looks like for insertion of cable or similar. Don't suppose this throws anymore light on the matter.

Did eventually find the pinhole and did as most suggested, still no luck. Guess need to own up and seek the help of the experts. Thanks again everyone!

Sweetheart, the drawer sounds like its come off its runners... try wiggling it around gently, lifting and side to side if possible..
see if that clears it... also when computer is off, try pulling draw out... let me know how you get on.. bless. x

Take a strong needle and insert it gently into a tiny hole on the front panel of the DVD drive just below the drawer (all of them have this).

You should feel it catch slightly as it goes in and the drawer should pop open a little enabling you to pull it all the way out by hand. Close it again normally without any discs in it and it should keep working OK.

Hi
Don't panic ! Don't try to forcibly remove the disc yourself (as you may damage it ) ,what has happened is you have jumped the DVD loader mech out of timing or have a broken loading belt ..
You have 2 choices
(1) Take the tower to your local PC tech & he should be able to remove the disc & replace the DVD drive .
(2) Take the tower to your local TV repair centre & have him remove the disc & retime the loader mech.

If it is a DVD ROM choice (1) would be best, as they are relativly inexpensive, if it is a rewriter(burner ) choice (2) could be OK but get a quote fist.
By the way the pin in the hole trick only works if the mechanism is still in correct timing & the belt is broken or slipping.
Good luck & hope this helps

Additional
OK it has a nice shiny panel over the front covering everything !
Sounds like you are a PC novice ( no disrespect ) those shiny oblongs are your USB ports & the pink & green holes are your microphone & audio out sockets respectivly.
Sounds like its off to the PC hospital for you !
cheers & good luck.

Take the drive out and release the obstruction. I had one of those foam rings you find in DVD packs get stuck to the bottom of a DVD and it was carried in and jammed the mechanism.
Just make sure that you are "earthed all the time because static electricity can cause a lot of damage.
The noise that you can here is probably the nylon parts of the mechanism rubbing against each other. Taking the drive out of a tower is easy, go to the manufacturer's website and you will find tips and illustrations to help. Good luck!

There should be a tiny hole on the front of the DVD draw that you can use to release the door manually. Push the point of a pen or similar into the hole and it should release (although a little wiggling of the door may also be required).

If you look at your dvd drive, there is a little hole underneath the tray. Get a paperclip and unbend it. Push the clip through this hole and you will release the tray.

regrettably, this is common. determining to purchase disks could properly be a fulfillment-or-omit element. some drives like categories of disks. you will in simple terms ought to shelve those and purchase some new ones, and purely use those that don't paintings with a various burner that does understand them. In a manner, you're fortunate that thechronic does not understand them. I had a %. of memorex dvd-r's that mychronic could understand, yet whilst i attempted to burn to them, they could fail every time. i presumed mychronic grow to be going undesirable, whether it grow to be in simple terms the dvd-r media that grow to be inflicting the topics. one element you're able to do in case you experience as much because it, is to enhance the firmware in yourchronic to make certain if that doesn't restoration the difficulty. the better element to do could be to purely pass out and purchase some diverse disks.

there should be a small pin hole on the front that should release the drawer by sticking in a pin, but if youve jammed it you may have to take it to pieces!!
