I live five blocks from a wonderful beach, in Southeast Brazil. I don't go to the beach, can't take much sun, but I love to walk by the sea. Lately, I haven't been doing this much, am always too busy, and too tired. In this sense, I do take the ocean for granted, I should be enjoying it much more!!
I can see it from my bedroom's window and, when I need to relax a little, or to think, that's where I go, for a few minutes, when I don't have time to go out. It's not the same as being near it, and hearing the waves breaking at the beach, but it's calming, makes me feel well.
You said it better than I could, the ocean really fills me with awe and wonder, and I'm grateful for living so near it! :)

I used to live right across 101 from the awesome Pacific. Maybe 300 yards. I reveled in it, and spent a lot of time near it. I was a teenager, and my freind and I would walk over and camp on the beaches (back when you could still do that in the late 70's) several times during the summers. I could hear it and smell it and feel it always.
I would go walk on the beaches during the biggest storms, with thunder and lightning and huge crashing waves! What Power! Now I live in the desert, and I miss it alot! I try to get there at least once a year, tho, and spend at least a whole day re-energizing myself, walking on My favorite Oregon Beaches.

Hell no. Who could take something like that for granted. I have lived on the ocean for most of my life and I still find myself being mesmerised, either sitting on a rock on the bog (I live in Ireland. The bog is not a toilet here, it is a type of marsh), or staring out teh window. And a walk on the beach never gets tedious, no matter how many times you do it.
Of course, I have never seen any coast line to match that on the West of Ireland. So wild and strong and powerful.

It fills me with awe and wonder as i drive by it but i take it for granted in that i dont visit it every day because sometimes its too cold and when it is nice and warm all the tourists come down and its too busy.
i actually think i would get claustrophobic if i lived too far in land because i have lived on the coast all my life

I love everything about the ocean. I'd probably go crazy if I couldn't taste it in the air. I spend a lot of time at the beach - surfing, tanning, cruising with friends, or just watching the waves.

I don't live near an ocean, But I do live by 1 of the Great Lakes.
And I don't take them for granted. In fact, I am very concerned with sudden rise of pollution in all our waterways.(thanks for laxing the pollution standards for factories,Bush!)

I took it for granted for so long, actually up until the past few years I never realized how wonderful it is to live in such a beautiful town by the ocean...Standing around our ocean drive looking out into the water, the water looks like it goes on and on forever...it's amazing...
This is my beautiful home...http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m193/Danna623/My%20Personal%20Pics/OD1.jpg

i'm offended at your question, i'm blind. yet i'm purely ignorant of the sea. I stay on the coastline and every day i glance out on the horizon and all i can work out is an wonderful void. there is no longer something there, no longer even darkness, considering that is something. i visit Lancaster for some pie now, through fact i'm depressed.
