Laughable? Maybe ! The old adage don't knock it 'til you try it applies here.
At this point in the life of Earth ANYTHING IS WORTH A TRY.

PS I use it to keep my koi pond cooler and prevent UV rays from burning my koi/goldfish.

Yes, koi can get sunburned in shallow unshaded ponds. Try to provide some shade for your fish with plants like water lily's or a shaded cover or large umbrella for part of your pond.
