Lord have mercy! My wife and I were talking about buying a second car so that when I get back from Iraq, I would have my own set of wheels. So my big gripe about this is that I have been in Iraq for 12 months and I really don't want to get stuck driving an old lady car. A family member offered to sell us a 1993 Buick Century Custom for $1,000.00. Only has 77,000 miles on is and is in PERFECT condition 4cyl, power everything. Now my problem it is not what I want, but financially it makes sense to get because of the condition, mileage, and gas mileage (21city 28 highway). So they question here is whether or not to get the buick or get the car that I want (2004 VW GTI for 8,000 with 65,000miles on it...gas mileage is like 31highway and being in the Army I travel alot). I know I sound like a whinny kid but I am just sick of hearing the "do what you want" line..Lol..Help me please?

Well I'd go for the Buick because it's reliable and the price is right, VW's on the other hand are known to have problems. But who knows you might get a good one.

If you can afford the VW, I'd definitely suggest getting that. Though the mileage is pretty awful, the newer styling and features are going to make the car last much longer (being over ten years newer than the buick). Plus, European engineering always beats American engineering, in my opinion!

You don't want to hear it, but it is entirely up to you. I would take the Buick, because it's from a family member. Until you could afford a better car. For $1,000, how can you beat that? And you know the car.

I might additionally get stuck up with the bells and whistles of the 4Runner, however you understand it isn't as reasonably priced because the subaru... and, total the suberu does appear like a larger deal for you and your loved ones. Maybe whilst your small children develop into higher children, get the 4Runner ; )

Get yourself the GTi....

Can you have fun in the Buick....um, I guess....
Can you have fun in the GTi? Almost anytime you take it out

I think by being in the army and doing what you did, you probaly earned yourself a GTi, don't you think?
