Over the past couple of days i have been getting a pain in my left leg, mostly behind my knee and down the back of my leg. Any suggestions as to what this could be? I have high cholesterol if that makes any difference (hopefully not though!). I havent banged it, sprained it, pulled a muscle or anything like that so im pretty much at a loose end!
Any help would be great - thank you :)

It could be sciatica...go and see your gp. This is a condition of the nervous system and can be extremely painful but can be treated with painkillers and excercise.

Pain shooting down the back of your leg can be a sign of back problems, and be attributed to anything from injuries, stress, poor posture, etc. You need to rule out any potential problems, such as a disc herniation. Stretching of the hips and hamstrings can also help. Want more info? Check out associatedcontent.com for "Back Pain - Is it all in My Head" and "Back Pain - Check your Feet"

Is your leg red, hot, or swollen in that area? Hold your leg in front of you and bring your toes back toward you as far as you can. Does the pain increase? If so, do NOT rub it and see a doctor ASAP, it could be a blood clot which could lead to stroke, pulmonary embolism, etc. Or you could be one of the millions who are not keeping as hydrated as you should. Dehydration can cause cramping, "charlie horses", etc. Drink some Gatorade or water.

Ask your doctor about an exercise routine. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, may reduce neuropathy pain, improve your muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi might also help.

This sounds like sciatica to me.
I get it and find that manipulation by a chiropractor is of great benefit.
You should be able to find one in your Yellow Pages.
