This is a very personal, AND important issue to consider. Make sure this is what you want. The procedure itself is a very non-invasive procedure. My ex had a vasectomy, and had no problems with this. After we divorced, I eventually got involved with another man. I had another child @ age 41- was on birth control pills and IN SHOCK! Well, I ended up getting a Tubal Ligation. Here are some sites below that may help you out. Good luck and Take Care! Hope this helped!

I had a vasectomy 30 yrs ago (age 25) after having a son and daughter. I tied it in with having another surgery so I had it done while under general anesthsia. It was very easy and have never had any problems or concerns.

Probably the biggest issue is you have to view it as totally permanent (tho there are reversal procedures with not very good success...esp. the further out it is). I felt that the world was getting so populated that I didn't want to contribute to that problem anymore than replacing myself. I also believe in quality versus quanity as far as a familly goes. I was the oldest of 7 kids. Family finances can only stretch so far. I wanted to afford the extras; to best be able to help with college, nice family vacations and all the unexpected expenses...two children was all I could comfortably afford.

You can always donate to a sperm bank before the procedure and your wife can still have another child of yours...if you choose (an insurance). I have no regrets.

Getting a vasectomy is “a piece of cake”. I got mine 20 years ago, when I was 21. Nothing ever changed. I was freed to have all the sex I wanted. It was the best $250 I ever spent. I also never had children, so the vasectomy was extra special to me!

I know a lot of guys that had them. None of them had problems. None of them have regrets.

The 15 min surgery was done on a Friday. I was back to work on Monday. I had a desk job. I even drove myself home from the surgery.

Don’t listen to all the “urban legend”. This stuff is propagated by men that never had one, and would not know. I laugh at men with tattoos that say, “Nobody is coming at me with a needle”. At least a vasectomy is done using clean instruments. Also a vasectomy is a lot less painful that a tattoo.

Yes I would have a vasectomy... Oh, no, I'm a woman. LOL

Ok, all sarcasm aside. My cousins husband wanted to have a vasectomy for a very long time. But here in Oregon the wife has to sign a release form before they can have it. So, it was pretty frustrating for him. Finally, after their third child and my cousin almost dying from the birthing. She decided she would sign the consent form. It was an in and out job, and it only took him a few days to recover from it. I remember him saying, "It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."

My husband had one 3 years ago - he was unfortunate as he did get an infection, but everyone else we spoke to (other friends hubby's) have been fine, back to work within 3 days, it is so much easier for the bloke to get bits chopped! (pardon the pun)

Even though he had the infection it did not put him off in the slightest. I think if you have made the decison to not have any more children then why not have the vasectomy?

Did it, no problem, life is good.

They shave the surgical area, inject it with Lidocaine, make a tiny incision, pull the a length of the vas deferens out through the incision, snip, burn both ends, attach a titanium clip to one end, and slip it all back inside.

You'll move kind of slow for a few days, but I've felt much worse pain. I just sat around with bags of frozen peas in my lap.

No change in sensation whatsoever.

P.S. This is minor surgery, while tubal ligation is more invasive. Makes more sense for us to do the deed.

The number of men that would risk an unplanned pregnancy rather than spend 15 min in surgery amazes me. They complain about child support all the time.

I had mine 10 years ago. It was not unpleasant. I would not have life any other way!

no I wouldn't because I don't have that equipment. But vasectomies are relatively simple procedures. My ex husband had one, and was fine in a few days. Yes, everything still works fine down there. You just shoot blanks. It doesn't affect your penis in any way, it's the tubes inside that they snip, not your manhood.

Yes - I had a vasectomy 20 years ago and it's no big deal! Relax and go for it.

My hubby's off to the Doctors on friday to arrange having his back wheels removed (his description, not mine) lol.

We've got five children and enough is enough! I did offer to be sterilised but after speaking to a family planning doctor I was told that it is a lot easier and more effective for the man to have it done and also the recovery time is a lot quicker.
