Try cat litter (in a stocking) it absorbs odors and moisture like thousands of tiny sponges.

It's Environmentally friendly, biodegradable, chemical free.

Try airing out your closet.. Keep sneakers on a balcony or in the garage or airing them out on the porch BEFORE you put them in the closet.. Also, in a pinch if you can't find baking soda baby powder works as well.. .To keep the closet smelling fresh.. Leave the door open during the day and hang an air freshner in there.. Or stuff your shoes with dryer sheets.

I'm sure they have baking soda in Spain, they need it for cooking as well. You can also place a lemon wedge in your shoes and put the shoes in a tight box for about an hour or so. That should get rid of the smell. Or just simply air them out in the sun for a bit! Good luck!

sure they have baking soda you just have to go to another store look around and if you can not find it get ride of those nasty sneakers and buy acouple of pairs and switch off everyday so the pair you wore the day before have a chance to dry out but you have to start with new pairs
