Plan B is strong dose of birth control that prevents a fertilized egg from turning into a fetus. In the first few days of conception, the fetal cells have to attach to the uterus to keep growing, and Plan B prevents that from happening.
So as for the abortion thing, it depends on when you think life begins. If life begins the moment the egg is fertilized, then it's abortion. If life begins once the egg attaches, or later, then it's not. That's why there's so much debate about it.

Plan B prevents a fertilized egg, should there by one, of implanting in the uterus and therefore making you not get pregnant.
I do not think it is the same as abortion for the simple fact that not everytime someone takes the Plan B there will actually be a fertilized egg (plan b is a precaution) and also that unless an egg implants and starts to grow is it considered a fetus Abortion is about terminating a viable pregnancy, plan b is about making sure that the pregnancy doesn't happen at all and that is called responsibility. Yeah maybe someone should have though about it before they had unprotected sex, but at least they realised their mistake and took action to prevent an unwanted pregnancy.
not everyone is prepared to be a parent and therefore taking plan b is a mature and responsible decision. Its not abortion as there is not fetus at all.

Read the instructions on this tablet package.
Batter see a doctor today, window of opportunity is very small.
You wrote,"Does taking the "Plan B" tablet tantamount to abortion? jus curious"..?
Depends on your conscience, this is highly beatable and a controversial subject, it is being debated years after years, again and again. But individuals must make their own mind up about such things.

Plan B is not like abortion at all. It simply stops an egg that might have been fertilized from implanting in the uterus. Be aware that if the egg has already implanted, it will not do anything, you will be pregnant, and Plan B will have no effect.
* Just wanted to reiterate that if the egg is already fertilized, it will have no effect. The person above said it stops a fertilized egg from turning into a fetus which is incorrect.
