1 Bright color attracts the opposite sex or matches with the background in animals; it attracts insects and bees in plants, which is good for pollination.
2 Territory is meant for showing superiority and for finding food and to avoid unnecessary conflict.
3 For sunlight
4 Dissemination is a means for dispersal so that they can spread to wider region.
5 By trial and error, which subsequently becomes ingrained.
6 Some predators need to hide themselves so that the prey becomes confused and falls in the trap.
7 Conservation of water is the main criterion; this is coupled with high temperature.
8 Blubber is fat which is lighter and hence it confers buoyancy and moreover it insulates the animal from very cold water where it goes to swim.
9 Animals in desert bury themselves in sand to avoid the intensity of heat and to hide from the enemy.
10 Cactus leaves are spines from which water cannot be evaporated, which mean that it conserves water.
11 Lions want to know which animals are weak (either too young or too old or disabled or diseased and cannot run and thus cannot defend itself.

1. Generally, to attract a mate (animals). For plants, since they themselves can't move and thus mate, they need others to, uh, do it for them (birds and insects). The bright flowers are to attract those birds and insects.
2. Mostly for food.
3. Food and water.
4. To ensure survival of their species. The more, over a large area, the better chance of surviving.
5. By others of their kind being poisoned or sickened it becomes a kind of inbred thing over time. It becomes something they just "know".
6. To hide from their prey, so they can catch it and eat, and thus, survive.
7. Mainly, lack of water.
8. For protection from predators (like sharks).
9. Don't have an answer for that one, sorry.
10. For protection from the sun and the heat, and to hide from predators.
11. It causes mass confusion and panic in the herd, making it easy for the lions (who are not panicked and confused) to zero in on the one they want.
