Hi,
This is a course to develop further your schooling in a chosen area. This can be to re-sit exams or study the next level up or to expand yourself into a new area of study. It covers anything from basic English and Maths to Computers, Childcare, Languages, Tourism, Mechanics, Hairdressing - in fact most courses are geared towards going to work after your course (or university). They can be from 2 to 16 or more hours a week and cover qualifications from Basic, Level 1-3, Certifictes and Diplomas to Foundation Degrees. You are in a class with others and a lecturer leads the lessons. You have access to enrichment programs and library/computing facilities, also access to hairdressing/beauty and canteen/restaurant. During your course you may have homework, assignments and work experience. Colleges do all they can to help you pass your chosen qualification, and they also advertise themselves and their courses on the internet. Check some of them out. Best wishes if you decide to go to college.

In the U.S., it is an individual class. In the U.K., it is what we here would call a "program" - an entire curriculum in a subject matter.
