do you think it is unlikely for me to "make it" on my own 200 miles away from my mom..I want to study for my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in a city 200 miles away from where i live..and my mom refuses to move to that "dream" city of mine...what would you do?
leave or stay
my father is in prison, and it's only my mom and little brother, my mom only speaks spanish so she obviously is incapable of a high salary job here in US

since my mom is physically disabled, she says she'd send $200 a month from her disability check, would that make it WAY easier?

I would leave because i could definately help out my family after i graduate. Business majors get pretty good jobs.
You will probably qualify for financial aid because of your mom's disability and you have a brother so dont worry about the financial stuff.
I think you should definately go for this degree eventhough its 200 miles away because if you make this sacrifice right now, you can reap the rewards later on (and your mom will benefit too) Also, try to get into the best school you can. Dont just settle for the ok schools and also do well in school. I dont think its unlikely for you to make it on your own because if you really want to study this subject and get a bachelors degree in this area, then I believe you will find a way to make it on your own. If you have the will, you will find a way.
i'm just curious, what school (or schools) do you want to go to?

You should be asking this question to the financial aids office at the school of your interest. You do not have to be a student there yet to inquire. Usually people with low income get all their expenses funded (tuition, room and board, books) without any family contribution. The aid may come in various forms such as grants, loans, work study, etc but as long as you don't spend the money on non-essential things such as a weekend vacation to Vegas, the money should be enough. Heck, some people go to college just so that they can get their hands on financial aid money.
Are you qualified to fill out a FAFSA? Also is the school in-state? Is this a public university? Are you going to be attending as a regular student and working toward a specific degree such as a Bachelor's. If the answers are yes, you might just make it. As I have said, ask the financial aids people.

I can almost guarantee that you would be eligible for financial aid, given your mother's low income, a father in prison, and a sibling. I think you can do it, and if you don't, you might get caught up in the life you've had so far. You need to make a break so that you can get used to a different lifestyle altogether. It isn't that you don't love your family, but you deserve more.

If you think about the future; with a degree, you'll be able to get a well paying job and take better care of your family. It may be a difficult choice now, full of anticipation and worries. But just think how happy you will all be when you can afford to take care of your family.
Good luck.
