Unlike ATI Nvidia will make the chips and send them to companies. Now the companies will do things like overclock the cores and ram. They will even put better cooling devices on the cars. Some will have fans or water cooling even. Check the stats on the ram and cpu core. Some will even need a power plug to run correctly. Which some will use GDDR2 or GDDR3 ram. GDDR3 is the faster of the two. They also come with 256mb or ram or 512mb. I hope this helps some.

Essentially the same graphics processor.

Nvidia makes the GPU and the reference design which video card makers follow but w/ slight variations (type of cooler, size /speed of memory, etc). Nvidia does not retail its product but rather sells them to card makers.

XFX is the company who makes the graphics card.
nVidia designed the card.

So actually it would be an 'XFX nVidia GeForce 8600 GT'.

nVIDIA doesnt make 3d cards. they only make the GeForce chipset. The cards are made by 3rd party companies like ASUS, BFG, XFX etc.
