There are several primary reasons could cause your computer to be slow and also some softwares you can download to speed up it.
First,Corruption and Errors within your registry. The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:

Second,Your computer is loaded with spyware/adware.spyware/adware hamper your computer's performance. It use system resources and slow your computer down.

first of all, defragmenting computers only serve to speed up the startup of a program, it does little to speed up the computer. C cleaner on the other hand will technically only remove unecessary files, the effects of which on speed is near insignificant. But I believe that that is not the main problem. It could be that since your computer is connected to a server, the server may be allowing viruses, worms, or spyware into all the computers. In that case, this problem calls for a firewall. Second, the hardware of your office computer may not really be that good. In that case, there really is nothing much you can do about it unless you are willing to replace the parts. Third, since I'm sensing that you want to stick to your computer, then maybe downloading and running these would help: 1.)a registry cleaner, 2.) anti-spyware, 3.) anti-virus (sometimes makes computer slow if computer doesn't have good hardware). Here's the ultimate solution. Reformat the computer. If after reformatting, your computer is still slow, I tell, you, it could only mean two things. Either your server keeps on infecting your computer with viruses or worms, or your office computer really has bad hardware, and you need to replace it (which I believe will do the trick). Oh, by the way, doing a defragment or a running C cleaner will not clean the server. The server is a separate computer, and C cleaner will only clean ONE drive, that which is the drive you select, which is your own computer's hard drive.

Hello,

(ANS) No! running a defrag program on your office machine will only affect your local hard disk drive (i.e. the C:\ drive only) and even if your computer has mapped drives to the nearest office server i.e. drive F:\ or drive H:\ etc I doubt the defrag program would see them and you probably wouldn't have enough rights & permissions to run a defrag on a server anyway. No! just stick to defraging your own machine which should be completely safe.

**NOTE: The same also applies to CCleaner, its only going to work on your local machine even if its networked. You should be quite safe with that.

**PS: I would suggest that apart from a defrag & CCleaner session, that you run a virus check & a malware check as these nasties can definitely slow a system down.

Kind Regards Ivan

As a rule defrag only works on the computers internal hard drive, and nothing else. If your office computer has never been de-fraged this could well be what is making it seem sluggish. I would try just a defrag first to see if this helped to make the computer run any faster.

Your office computer [PC] running slow could simply mean that there is insuffient power [space] on your office server.

You should defrag your PC on a regular basis at least once a week.

QUESTION - If you can see the light on your drive unit, check this out. When you click something on screen, is there a flickering 'white light' visible usually in the push-button on/off switch of your drive unit [tower]. If this is the case, then your PC is spending too much time in 'white space', which is normally skipped.

I have this problem with my PC but it does not bother me, I just wait for it to do whatever it's going to do and then bang away on the keyboard - no problem. But then I'm at home and retired so it's not really a problem.

It will only do it on your computer you will have to manually go to the other computers and do it yourself unless you set it to do it weekly by it's self. Now to set it up to do it weekly you just need to go into your Start menu Programs Accessories System Tools Scheduled Task from there you will see Add Scheduled Task just do whatever it says after that and it will clean and defrag your system for you on a regulare time. Make sure it's set for a time when you won't be on it to do it.

It would only clean up your PC not the server, however if you wanna be really sure why not just unplug the network connection, run your clean up and then when its finished plug it back in.

Al....

BTW my work PC is very slow too, but its because of all the crap the work wants me to have on it that i dont even use.

Sounds like you're on a network, so why not just talk to the system administrator? They should now how to speed up your individual work station. If you try to clean it up yourself I seriously doubt that any local procedures you used would even get into the server. However you could mess up some software on your individual computer that's needed to communicate with the rest of the network.

As someone who is responsible for a company's computers and its network i wouldn't advise you to do any form of maintenance on your work computer.....report the problem to your IT department and let them deal with the problem. That way if anything goes wrong it is their responsibility not yours.

Complain to tyour Boss you can't be productive due to a slow PC and ask him if you should report the problem to the Company IT Dept. ... then tell them that you Boss demands they sort sort it out as it's impacting your ability to work

(It's not your job to fix PC's at work, so don't waste your time trying to == they WON'T thank you for it == if you complain enough they will simply give you a new one)
