I think that your best bet, since it's old and doesn't matter, would be to take it apart and fiddle with it yourself. Messing up my family's computer and then worrying how I could fix it is how I became a computer tech. I've told countless people, that first time I fixed something on my own, it's like a whole new world just opened up for me. So go ahead, bang it around, mess it up, the worst you could do is kill an old computer and be out $0. But the good news is: You'll have learned what NOT to do because it messes up computers bad :).

All atoms are perfectly identical. A hydrogen atom is a hydrogen atom is a hydrogen atom. It wouldn't change anything. One physicist even quipped "hey, it's all the same electron everywhere." I like the idea of a transporter but how in the heck are you going to reassemble a 10^4^23 atoms exactly the same way? Be that as it may, you'd be exactly the same person because the same molecular configuration of the neurons and synapses of your brain would already be in place, meaning all your thoughts and memories would be extant.

Sounds like it's suttiung down becase its overheating .. so MOST likley a dead fan .. either the Power Supply (PSU) or the Processor (CPU)..
It MIGHT just be dust & crap stopping the air flow or it MIGHT be a dying PSU ..
