I'm rephrasing my last question. With your personal taste put aside, who do you think in rock has the best vocal capabilities?
(or if you were Simon Cowell who would you pick as the best rock singer).

So it is like this, you may say I love The guy from nickelback, but that's impossible cause you have for example robert plant who did higher notes, that's the kind of question I'm asking. Not who you like the best, but who, according to his/her vocal range and capabilities is the best.

Remember it's not who you like...but who can do more difficult stuff with his voice...(anyone can scream as opposite to singing bohemian rapshody for example).

For me I think it would be Michael Kiske ex-vocalist of Helloween, I'ts not my favorite but I've never heard someone with a clearer voice and reach notes as high as he did and keep those notes for a while...

i understand your question, and this is what i think...child in time by deep purple has the most amazing vocal range in any rock song....i think it was IAN GILLAN, but i am not sure. whoever fronted the band when that song came out!!! but, yeah...that has to be the best rock vocals i've ever heard.
rock on!!! you have to listen to the whole, full version of the song to see what i mean....

This is a tricky one. Most of the people named have limited range. I liked Jim Morrison, but he's not much musically (psychedically is another question). I think I land on Robert Plamt, as I've rarely seen a singer with that kind of range. Nowadays, not so much, but ealier, he could do anything. I have to put my virtual money there. I used to be a radio DJ, have a huge music collection, crossing a zillion genres, and yet he's the first one to come to mind. I can't imagine what else would suffice.

I think Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave) has an incredible range. From deep, husky tones to his trademark high banshee wails, it's all perfection. I personally would say Robert Plant is my fave vocalist, but I'm sticking with Cornell right now for the amazing range.

David Coverdale from Whitesnake. I have always loved his passion, his sincerity, his vocal style. If I had a band. I would find someone with his voice or like it big time! He can sing, hold the notes long and keep it strong without cracking too.

Gotta throw another vote in for Chris Cornell. But also:

Geoff Tate, Queensryche (try to get their version of Scarborough Fair. Amazing)
