It seems natural gas has gone up in price just as oil based products. Does that make buying gas dryers and gas cooking appliances more expensive to operate than their electric counterparts?

The decision would have to be made considering the area that you live in and your local utility rates. In my area, it is cheaper to use the gas for heating instead of electricity.

Some people have a preference for a certain type of stove top or oven, so that would be another consideration.

Gas is still a bit cheaper than electricity, so is used for heating and hot water. Electricity is used for cooking. Seems to balance the two, but you never know when the rates will go crazy on one or the other and change the mix.
Years ago, electricity was the only way to go to save money. Now that has changed, although gas prices have recently (last year) gone double.

That depends upon the rate your electrical company charges, and what types of appliances you are talking about.
I prefer electric appliances myself. Electricity doesn't explode, as there is nothing to leak; although you do have a fire hazard if they are not properly wired.
Propane should be outlawed. That evil stuff leaks, and it's heavier than air, so it sinks to the floor. Any little spark can set it off. If you ever saw a smoking hole in the ground where a house stood, you can damn well be sure it was propane that did it.
If nothing else, consider an electric water heater on an "off peak" plan. If your local power comapany can control part of your electrical load, they'll sell you the power for that water heater for a fraction of the peak rate price.

Gas is definitely cheaper than electric plus the great benefit is that most gas appliances work when the power is out. Go to the website below and you can find out which appliances rate the best.

In my area, gas was the way to go up untill the middle of last year. Now gas is outrageous, and electricity is the way to go!

It depends on your local utility rates and which type of gas you use, natural or propane.
