Can a lose of sense of smell ever be recovered?
My 14 year old daughter has been unable to smell anything for as far back as she can remember, but we as parents only discovered this recently after buying her perfume for her birthday. She made a random comment along the lines of "pointless pressie as I can't smell it".When we asked her why she had never thought to mention this to us before her answer was simply because she can never remember a time when she could smell. As a younger child she had her tonsils removed and two sets of grommets. She also has a deviated septum for which she has a hospital appointment for next week.Shes mentioned that she hopes they can restore her sense of smell,is this possible as I don't want to raise her hopes?
Ty in advance for any insight.

Sorry to post this twice but I posted it in the wrong section

You're right not to get her hopes up...

Just reassure her that the doctors can only try and that nothing is certain.

But it's important to listen to her views as well. If the doctors start saying things like, "Oh, we could try this or that or the other." - you need to listen to your daughter to see if she is happy with it. Once she becomes stressed by it, you need to make it clear to the doctors that you are behind her and she is not to be used as a guinea pig for them to test.

I realise there are serious implications, especially regarding health and safety (ie gas leaks) and I'm sure that any doctor worth their salt will advise on how best to deal with this condition.

Nasty niffs aside, it's terrible to think that she will never know what a rose smells like or the scent of a baby or a million and one other wonderful smells - things that the rest of us take for granted.

I hope you have good luck regarding this and that she makes as full and complete a recovery of her sense of smell as is possible.

Best wishes.

I lost my sense of smell thankfully only for a very short time but when it happened I couldn't taste anything either gradually with use of a nasal spray I got mine back. Hopefully with modern day medicine her sense will return.

I regarded over a couple of minutes in the past and he grew to become into sittin there sniffing this patch for muscle discomfort corresponding to bengay. Haha..he in no way smelled ne element in see you later that he grew to become into excited he grew to become into waiting to smell this stable minty scent haha

My mum lost her sense of smell when she was in her teens. She died about 60 years later never having regained it. Sorry!
