It depends on the degree. Prolonged and persistent adversities force perseverance, even when it doesn't seem humanly possible. Short adversity spurs action. Prosperity brings much responsibility, and can bring a false sense of security if it is short lived.... maybe a slight edge at handling adversity.

adversity definately - it makes my character dig in and try harder. Prosperity makes me lazy.
