I've been thinking about sept 11th and all the people who died, and I know this sounds weird but I was thinking what if god said that everyone else could've lived if you die, like say your the only one in a plane crash or someone drowns you. I know this is all kind of morbid but I was curious. For me after I really thought about, I would give my life to save thousands of others, I'm not sure how low i would go like would i give my life for ten people, but I know i would give my life for 100 people. What do you think you would do if given the choice.

I think most people who become heroes don't think about this very much. They just act.

I think we all probably feel we will somehow come through a crisis alive and well. Think about the soldiers who throw themselves on grenades to save their buddies. Do you think they think about dying? It's hard to visualize, but many people we would think of as ordinary folks have become heroes in just such a way.

Heroism often is the result of very ordinary people doing very extraordinary things. I don't know what I would do. I am in no rush to find out. I think I would die for my family--don't know about other folks but would like to think if the chips were down I would act heroically.

I would give my life under many circumstances. I know that I have helped a dog out of a frozen pond it fell into and I almost drown myself. I would do it again without a thought, which is probably how I got into such a situation. If I could save people, I would be that much more willing.

I think I would do it. Your postulation sounds really artificial, but in life, I would happily go, knowing I'd helped many.

I'm like you. If I could have saved the 3000+ people, then yes, I'd probably give my life. 4 or 5? Not so sure.

This is an impossible question for me.
You must be a sensitive soul, because I cannot imagine the scenario you describe.

There are things I would trade my life for - my daughter and son - but that's it for me right now at this time in my life.

Turn it around. Suppose you are in a bus and it crashes and is on fire. There is only one Firefighter there who can help all of you but, he must die to save you...what would you want him to do?

Risk my life perhaps, but not if I knew the risk meant certain death.
