In the US the poverty line is set at about $10,000 a year for one person, and $20,000 for a family of 4. Using this measure of poverty, you are right. However the cost of living in very poor nations is much lower for a minimum standard of living than in the US. The UN and international poverty programs consider people with less than $2 a day living in poverty. By this measure it much less and shrinking. About 40% live in poverty using this definition and 10% have less that $1 a day.SEE

Absolutely no. Just 58% of the total population lives below poverty line. In fact just in Guinea Bissau 88% of the total population is poor. In Mali72%,Zambia76%Uganda85%Nigeria71%.And in the other 198 countries of the world the wealthy population is bigger than the poor population. And Norway,Finland and Luxembourg as I know,are the most wealthy nations of the world.(I mean that the rich population is extremly higher than the poor population.)My source of information is an american computer program called"Encarta Premium 2007".

Way, way off. Based on the $2.00/day poverty line, about 40% of the population (2.6 billion) are poor. For the dollar-a-day line poverty is below 15%.
