I ask a serious, non-inflammatory, unoffending question; and I get a violation for it... The question was:

Why is the flight 93 memorial designed like an Islamic shrine?

How the hell does this violate the guidelines? Do they hand out violations just because someone dislikes the content and reports it, without it actually violating the guidelines?

I've contacted customer care before about stuff like this, but I never get an answer.... How lame.

Don't feel bad. I know people that get violations constantly for no legitimate reason. I know a couple people that got their accounts suspended with out even knowing what they did.

They don't even read the content they just send you a violation if somebody reports you.

The other users on this site can be so immature. I never violate anyone whether it violates the guidelines or if it offends me. If I don't like a question I won't answer it.

People just like to feel powerful because this is the only power they get.

I've had loads of violation notices for decent, non offensive q's & A's too. It seems the Moderators don't do any in-depth checking. If someone says that the guidelines have been violated (perhaps they didn't like the question or disagreed with your point of view) they are reporting people for abuse, rather than just give a Thumbs Down. I've taken the issue up with YA but have never had a sensible reply, only that they can't say who reported me, so i've faced the exact same situation as you. I think most of the violation notices to be honest come from the Religious Right in the USA. They seem particularly sensitive if you say anything which disagrees with their warped sense of Christianity or George Dubya Bush.

The question doesn't violate the guidelines, but there are new procedures now. It seems that questions can be automatically deleted by just one user with a good reporting "reputation". Check the "new rules" on the answers blog.

They don't care about what you think, it's all about what they think.

Yes, they do hand out violations just because someone dislikes the content and reports it, without it actually violating the guidelines.

Shhh. Don't speak too loudly. They'll see what you're typing.

The choices for what violates guidelines is arbitrary at best.

I also question Yahoo, I've gotten a few violations before, and challenged them all. Never got a response from anyone. I think yahoo's bark is worse than it's bite, unless you're a continual repeat offender.

They don't even read the reports. They simply generate an email, and you get fined ten points.

They are just weak people is all, and the hatred has no bounds ... they can't get enough liberal hate speech, but when it comes to Conservatives anything goes.

I'm more like 009.5. That's a little innuendo.
