I'm currently a senior in highschool, have a 3.6 GPA, 1850 (out of 2400) SAT score which i will retake soon, I have also taken SAT II Math 2C (620/800) and SAT II Biology (640/800) I also have some extracurricular activities and have taken two AP classes.

I have considered applying to a few of the UCs (mainly Irvine and San Diego) and Purdue, and University of Illinois (both Urbana-Champagne and Chicago) however, I'm uncertain about my chances with these colleges. I intend to stay in California/move to Illinois where i have family and relatives, however, I'll take the best college I am admitted to.

What are my chances with being admitted to the schools listed above? Can anyone tell me my "safe schools" and what my "reach schools" should be. I am currently undecided about my major, however i have taken an interest in media and business, but I honestly don't know what major to choose!

What should ido?
Thank you to all the readers who took the time to read this and respond

At UIC, there are very few OOS undergrad students. Your GPA is good for UIC. They don't receive enough SAT scores to list averages, but the average ACT is about a 25. UIC is more of a health science school. You'll probably get in. UIC business does a fairly good job of getting internships for their students. For UIUC, you'll need to apply by the beginning of November.
The University of Illinois has a policy of extremely high tuition for OOS.

1. "Business" as an undergrad is a total waste of time. It's the sort of major that employers think is a total joke. (As an employer, I can speak to that) Law schools similarly look at "pre-law" classes as counterproductive. It is better to major in something that you have a serious interest in. (the assumption is, you'll do well studying what you enjoy) I have friends that have a b.s. in chemistry but now work for major investment firms. I also have friends that were E.E./C.S. majors (engineering) but are now in law school and working in fields way off the beaten path.

2. You have a decent chance at the schools you are considering. San Diego has become very competitive over the years so it may be somewhat of a long shot. Certainly, the flagship schools in the UC (Berkeley, Los Angeles) are a reach but you may be at the cusp of acceptance at SD and Irvine. Urbana Champagne is very competitive now but you may just make the cut. Unfortunately, as a conventional undergrad candidate out of high school (as opposed to unconventional transfers) you are judged mostly by a numerical calculus of your scores and the weight of your extracurriculars are less impacting. Thus, you MUST improve your standardized testing scores.

3. Just because you scored highest on your SAT II Bio, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll enjoy being a bio major at the university level. A college education is absolutely NOTHING like a high school education in America. You'll find that the first two years in college will be an exploratory process of actually trying to find out what you're interested in. Do not read too much into your declared major because, more often than not, it will change.

Good luck!

Looks like you did well in school! Congrats!

You have high marks in both grades and test scores. Since you scored high on the Biology section I recommend that you take a look at majoring in Biology and possibly become something in the medical field. I recommend pharmacy because of all of the advantages.

As for schools, it looks like all of those schools are great schools in which you have a great chance in getting into considering your race, grades and test scores.
