Hello everyone

Thanks for taking time out to read this. I'm a exchange student at SDSU and I thought that it would be a lot cheaper here than in England, so far the clothes have been cheaper but not much else, could someone tell me if that's because I'm in San Diego?

Where could I find cheap homeware (Wal-Mart isn't that cheap) If someone could suggest some dirt cheap shops I would be very greatful!

I wanted to know after buying a car in the US what do I need? Insurance? Tax? Etc

Thank you in advance for all your answers.

Sensible answers appreciated.

=)

If you're SDSU, you're just a couple of Trolley stops away from Ikea on Fenton Parkway. You can get a set of plates and bowls for 6 people for $20.00. It's by far the best place for inexpensive housewares.

For a car, you'll pay sales tax and registration fees when you register it. You'll need to have liability insurance and it's possible that you may need to have an emissions test. You can call DMV to see if it's required for that particular car.

The best place for a student to shop is the charity thrift stores, such as Goodwill and Salvation Army. There are many other small thrift stores near campus.

For information about buying a car in the US, see the link below.

California, and especially San Diego, is one of the most expensive in the US to live. I lived in San Diego (Ocean Beach) for many years.

Like Smurf said, you're in an expensive part of the country. Trader Joe's is a great place to shop and to maybe even find some food from home. Good luck!

All your answerer's a right so far. I would add to Bobby O's answer by saying it is the seller's responsibility to get a smog certificate on a car, not the buyer. Talk to other students, councilors and so on for information also.
