Have you cleaned it out lately??
If not, it's time.
Start by unplugging it and letting it cool down. Next, unscrew the backing of the computer tower/can and look inside for dust. If it is dusty, gently vacuum out the dust (nice if you have a gentle brush hose attachment) and then replace the casing.
Turn your computer back on and let it reboot. Now you need to go through all of your program files and stored data and start deleting all the junk in it, including Word documents, pictures you never look at or need to be edited, music files that don't play, etc. Back up all of the stuff you DO want to save on separate discs or flash drives.
Next do a system cleanse. Go to your "Start" panel on Windows and go to "Add/Delete Programs". Follow the instructions on how to delete programs, and go through the list and delete everything you haven't used in more than one full year.
These will create broken links, so go on the Web and download some programs designed to repair or fix links. Look up "registry scan" on the search engine and try the free downloads to clean out all the broken links and reduce the amount of things loaded up at start up.
This should clean out about 60-70% of usable space for your computer to run, and should prevent freezing up. If it does not quit freezing up, it's time for a full reboot. Back up all of your files and programs, then pull out the startup discs you used to startup your computer when you first got it, and follow the instructions to start your computer over again from the beginning. I would do this as a last resort, as you have to go back and reinstall the programs you backed up, or download current editions of your web browsers and media programs.
Good Luck, my sister lost her back up discs, so we cleaned out her stored data and did the registry scan, and it cleaned her computer up about 70%.

Good suggestions so far.

Also might want to delete your internet temp files. On 'Internet Options" in the Control Panel there is an option to do so. It could speed up your response time.

Also might want to run a defrag to consolidate your computer files.
