It absolutely depends on your teacher. Some teachers believe more in the history side of things, so that's what they teach. Others (the good ones) believe you have to be up and acting to get what theater is all about. Either way, you'll be doing a lot of writing, lots of memorizing, and some good ol' improv

All the theater classes I've had have been good ones. It's another one of those "You get what you put into it" kind of things. My first class I showed up, did what the teacher asked me to do, but didn't put much thought into what I was doing, plus I was pretty immature back then. I took some other classes after I had grown up some and noticed that there were others in the class doing exactly what I did in years past.
One thing I've seen that is consistent with acting classes is, there are a lot of strange people who take those classes. Let me tell you that a strange person does not a good actor make. It seems that so many young people think that. I'm not sure why. I take acting very seriously but I like to have fun with it too...but you won't see me acting like an idiot for the sake of idiocy.
Professional acting classes are very different, of course. Everyone is there to work and do the best they can.
I taught drama at the high school level for a year and what you can expect to do is learn some theater history, learn proper techniques in warming up, acting exercises, auditioning, perhaps resume building and you may even get to audition for a show. There are a ton of other things you may or may not do. Don't be intimidated. Get some of your friends to sign up with you.
My advice is to have fun, but remember you can learn a lot if you have a good balance between fun and being focused.

It will depend on the teacher, and the influence certain educational ideas have on the teacher and the class. It could be just about anything, from a recycle bin into which all the failing English students are put, to a sophisticated history or acting class. Hopefully you will find it fun. Most HS and most college theatre classes are of little value to an actor, but may cover interesting topics.

Some history of the theater and some assignments like monologues or paired up scenes.
Stage moves, blocking. Theater postiions (stage right, stage left).
Since it's usually a method teacher they will except you to use props and costume yourself as best as you can. That may count as part of the grade.
Do you do the scene in Blue Jeans or if you decide to do Willy Lohman will you use stage die to make your hair gray or a wig. Will you get a checkered baggy suit and suspenders with a wide brim hat. Will you put on a phony mustache or grow one and make it gray. Will you get some glasses and a hanky and play with it as you're talking, you know take the glass off, huff steam on them from your breath, clean them, look through them AS you are speaking.
See, that's BUILDING A CHARACTER

Taking an appearing type may be a large element. it incredibly is an risk to fulfill new human beings and attempt new studies... certainly attempt it, and in case you do unlike then do exactly not take it lower back. however i individually think of you will. Taking any form of appearing type is incredibly reliable to your character as a guy or woman... particular it would assist you while you're looking in direction of a profession. The extra practice and adventure the extra perfect. wish I help.

I envy you.
A Theatre Class will educate you in the history of Theatre, how it is important, how you relate, and how Theatre can help you.
Pay attention. It just may be the most important class you will ever take.

Its all about your character. If you don't have one, just participate and you'll find out how far you can go. I think the more you make believe in front of strangers the more you'll understand that life is a stage.

expect something ........ different. it is very fun once you get loosened up to all of the people and especially the teacher. you will normally practice your pronunciation, speach, and body language. my favorite part was the pronunciation because my teacher was really goofy, but fun. i loved it and you will to.
