When you book your kayak, mention that your friend is overweight. It will not be the weight that is a problem, it will be the her size.

I am a little overweight, and I found the kayaks with their smaller opening not too welcoming. I think that someone grossly overweight might have problems fitting in. But knowing the general sizes in the USA the rental place might have several different models of kayak.

If you get an Canadian canoe it will not be problem at all, as they are open all the way.

How much is over weight?

I've been kayaking a few times. There was once I went to a kayaking + camping trip in Canada. There was another friend of mine with me and there was also few bag packs. I'd say the total weight during that trip was approximately 200kg.

The other time I went kayaking along the beach. There was no luggage but my brother weighs like 100+ kg. So that sums up maybe around 180kg.

I guess weight is not a concern in kayaking. As long as you guys know how to balance and control the kayak. I believe that when you are out kayaking, the operators will advise you to put on a life jacket in case of emergency.

Hope it helps.
