I have a quiz tomorrow & have to memorize 20 Spanish words in order. I've tried to memorize them, but it's not sinking in.

Try writing them in thick, red marker on a flashcards, I was told that the red helps you learn them (something about the way you can stare at red and look away and still see the image). Plus the flashcards make it easy to keep whipping through them right up to the last moment.

Worked for me with French,I had a terrible time learning enough vocab to write a decent essay till I started doing this.

I'm not sure how long it would take me. I find it easier to memorize if I can associate the words with things I know-many Spanish words are similar to English ones. Picture each item as you say the word. You could try to make a little rhyme or song from the words, since you have to memorize them in order. Hope this works for your test.

In order for the average person to understand a word or phrase, it takes them 70 times to hear it. My daughter takes a conversational Spanish class. It's probably too late now, but sing them...or make a song.

If I had to do that, I would look for some common factor in as many as I could (like all start with a or each has a sha sound) and go from there. Good luck on your quiz.

I can learn fast but I have a hard time memorizing a list of things in order. I hope you do OK on your test. Good luck.

Here's a trick. If they are completely unrelated, the better it is.

Let's say this is your list you have to remember:
1. bird
2. dog
3. sink
4. flower
5. happy

This is what you do:
Picture the BIRD dancing on the DOG's head.
The dog gets mad but trips on a kitchen SINK.
And inside the sink appears a singing FLOWER. And the song is "Don't worry be HAPPY!"

The crazier the images in your head, the better you will remember the word.

Just keep writing them over and over on the piece of paper. Until you've filled up the front. Turn to the back and try and put as many in order as you can. If you get stuck flip to the front real quick and peek. Just keep doing that until you don't have to look any more.

I cant even remember my conversations from like 20 mins ago. let alone remember 20 words for who knows how long lol. What I use to do is, when I had to remember something for school, I would get a very small piece of paper and write it really little on there and try to get it all to fit, put it under your hand like you are just keeping your hand on the desk and move your fingers so you can see it. but that is just me! and im a cheater sometimes! lol. or just remember like 10 of them for sure and then write the other 10 on the paper!

I find it helps to watch Japanese shows and TV series (in my case, anime). This will increase both your passive and active vocabulary, and you will gradually recognize more and more words as your learning progresses. Also, try and practise forming sentences as much as possible, whenever you have a free moment. If you can do it in kana, even better. This will improve both your grammar and help you retain vocabulary.
