I dont think it really matters as long as the child is loved and well cared for, but you are asking about boys in particular and I do think its important to have a male in your life. Moms can be just as great though.

Most boys who grow up with single mothers have few male role models in their lives, which could be a serious problem because moms can handle boys about as well as dads can handle girls.
