It sounds like you are being asked to give an Executive Summary. What you need to do is this...

Briefly state what the subject matter is and why you are talking about it.

For example... I have written a research paper about primate's eating habits in the wild. In this paper, I probably have alot of facts, and I am using those facts to come up with a conclusion. If I would highlight my point of interest, I am giving a fast way for my reader to know what I am writing about, and they will know immediately if it interests them. It would look like this....

Primates in the wild have been experiencing harsh conditions due to increased drought conditions, and are slowy starving to death. If we do not implement a five step plan now, the species may become extinct.

For another shorter example... your paper may be about the Mayan Empire and you may be discussing the politics of the culture. As a special point of interest, you would want to point out that women were not allowed to hold an office of significance.

It sounds to me like your teacher wants you to relate what you write to yourself, your own interests or your interests in the world around you, your own values.
