What does it mean? To get stoned and high?

I guess it could be a drug reference of people who are out of that life and are trying to get in. They break on through the other side by being on LSD, hashish, marijuana, pot,etc... Never thought of it as a drug reference when listening to this song when growing up, thought more of breaking out and becoming yourself from society was more of breakthrough of this song. Very good song by the Doors, shame Jim Morrison dieded so young, long live Jim.

If you've ever heard the uncensored version of that song, the drug references become quite clear. The line "She get..." sounds like it was cut off, doesn't it? The actual line goes "She gets high". I had known for years that particular line had been censored but had no idea that it still existed until I heard the song on XM a couple of years ago. I was able to get the uncensored version of the song as part of a box set where the CDs are re-releases of the group's studio albums plus some extra material. Another bonus is a longer and more explicit version of "The End".

Break on through is a reference to Aldous Huxley's book "the doors of perception".

Reverend Gary Greenwald in his speech about Backward masking and Satanism in rock music, said that this song referred to going to going to the dark side ie Satanism.
