At the university that I work at, only admitted students are permitted to sign-up for an email address. Now why would you want to obtain a university email address if you're not going to attend the university? An email address is one of the benefits to being a student.

Just type in the name of the college, city and state into Yahoo search or Google, and it should bring up a few links that you can click on to find the email address

well, as far as i know you cannot.
it's like "how can i get a yourname@apple.com or yourname@ge.com email address" type of question.

as i know the IT departments would restrict applications to enrolled students (or alumni) only.

FACEBOOK allows you to get access without beign in college.....other than that..i see no reason to have one.
