I drive a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant my heater does not work because it was leaking now the winter is coming and I need to have it fixed my mechanic told me it will cost me $800 because he has to remove the dash board and that takes four hours of labor so is there another way I can fix the heater core.

Easiest fix is to simply by-pass the heater core.

Look for the 2 hoses the run into the firewall that go to the heater core and connect them togther. It just means you won't have heat inside the car.

If the heater core is leaking it has to be replaced. any stop leak additive will usually result in the heater core becoming plugged and will have the same effect as having no heater core and is not a guaranteed cure

Get a repair manual.. (chiltons) ... you might just have to take a few things out... like the glove box... and blower motor... to get to it... not really a big deal...
