What origin (like Scottish, English, Spanish, Greek, ect) does this last name sound like? Don't look it up on the internet. I just want to see what kind of guesses pop up on this name. "Pendarvis" (Pendarvis is the Americanized version of Pendarves).

It's not made up. I promise it's a real last name.

Is Bohemian even an origin? (Not being sarcastic)

Sorry, Nightengale. You're wrong. It's not considered an English surname.

Seeing how Osmei has ruined any more chances at the fun, I'll tell you now it's Celtic (Cornish for a modern term). If you know American history (especially southern history), you'll see the name pop up more than once.

Ok...I found several references to it that might help...:

1) This link gives you the coat of arms and origin/meaning http://search.swyrich.com/searchresults.asp?Licensee=uk24071&Surname=Pendarves%20&sId=&t=1718

2) Here Pendarves is referenced as "compounded from simple Celtic Cornish words like Res = Ford, Ros = sloping land (eg on a cliff or moor), Goon = moor, Men = Rocks, Nan or Nance = valley, Tol = top, carn = carn or cairn, vellan = mill. They are no different to English compound names like Green orchard farm." link: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/CORNISH/1997-11/0879622085 (just ctrl+F the name to find it)

3) Someone named John Pendarves is referenced in a Book called Arrows Against Babylon, for the People called Quakers to Answer...link: http://www.qhpress.org/texts/nayler/pendarv.html

Well from google results, it appears you've asked this many times w/o a good answer. I conclude it is a name of Cornwallish origins (British).

hope that helps

*cheers*

EDIT: Well sh!t...I thought you really needed help...so I searched it before reading this was some sort of magic quiz.../groan...

Bohemian would be my guess for fun- However for all those who are guessing still it is English I hate it when someone asks something and then never tells what the real answer is.

Its really not English? What is it then?

English or French? It sort of sounds like something from King Arthur.
