Depending where you live in Abu Dhabi and where you work in Dubai. From the outskirts of Dubai to say the airport in Abu Dhabi, it takes about an hour.
Traffic is bad in Dubai and during certain times of the year it can be very foggy in the mornings and evenings on the main road. The Sheikh Zayeed Road that you need to drive between the cities is a mess in Dubai, a lot of construction going on right now and it will continue yet for a few years. The road can be very dangerous and there are many high speed accidents in Dubai.
Why not live in Dubai? The cost of living is a bit less and accomodations are cheaper and more plentiful in Dubai.

Probably about 1 hour to reach Dubai, and another 1/2 or so to get within the downtown area. Say at a safe speed 2 hrs give and take traffic jams.

119 kilometres..."To get to Abu Dhabi from Dubai, you need only to go west from the Sheikh Zayed Road towards Jebel Ali and follow the road for about an hour and a half, until you see signs for the City Centre."

It is not long, it is around 1.10 - 1.30 hours, depending on your speed, many many people do that, but I hope your work is not in down town Dubai, cause the traffic is terrible there and it will take you longer to reach it.
