Everything I've read says they dig a burrow to sleep in or you can make them a burrow. I made him one and left him substrate to burrow in..but he just doesn't. He sleeps out in the open. Why? Is this okay or is he sick?

I don't think it's a concern. Mine never burrow, though I have a shelter one of them goes into and sleeps. Mine's a broken flower pot (now outgrown), but you can buy those wood things (like hollow 1/2 log pcs.) in varying sizes, for a while anyway til out grows!

Mine sleep out in the open, and sometimes under a cork bark hide, (mine are tiny babies atm) i don't think its anything to worry about, and when that are 6 stone in weight, you will be glad if yours don't burrow. Living bulldozers springs to mind!

They sleep where the temps and humidity are closest to what they want, they are also bad at making their own burrows. When you make a burrow, you want to make sure it fits his needs.

Mine live in my backyard so I'm glad they don't. Mine come in the garage at night and they go back outside in the morning on their own.
