I assume that you are using the Fahrenheit scale when you indicate that the temperature is 80. If you mean that the temperature yesterday was half that of today or halfway to the lowest possible temperature. Absolute zero is –459.67 °F, so, today was 459.67+80 above that or 539.67 °F above absolute zero. Half of that is 269.835. Therefore, yesterday's temperature was -459.67+269.835 or -189.835 °F.

If it was twice as cold yesterday, that would be half of that 80 degrees, that would put it at 40 degrees.

Yesterday=Y
Y=2(-0)+80
Y=80
So yesterday was 80
