The only reason why I can't open any files is because I deleted a certain program that was able to work on a file extention. But the only way to fix it is to just right-click the file that I want to open, and choose the appropriate program from the Open With choices.

Now, I admit it. I'm pretty slow, so I don't know what all this right-click/open with stuff. So, where exactly do I right-click on a file? the file won't even open. and where is the Open With thing? Help me? Please? I don't understand how I have to fix this in order for it to open my files like it used to.

Sorry to be blunt, but if you deleted the program that works with the file; how do you expect it to work? Re-install the program or atleast tell the extension of the file you are trying to modify ex. ms word is *.doc

Open with is a command if you right click on the file, that means while you are exploring the files ex my documents, right click mouse and choose open with. It will give you the options to choose a program. As I have no idea what type of program you are trying to open, I can't suggest anything.

Find one of the files, put the cursor over it, and press the right mouse button. From the menu pop up, choose 'open with', then scroll down the list and pick the program you want to use to open it.

For a long term fix, assuming you don't plan to re install whatever program you deleted, right click the file, from the menu, select 'Properties'.

Under the 'General' tab, you will see a section that says

Type of file:

Opens With:

To the right of that, you should see a button titeld "Change"

Click the change button and it will reassign the program that opens the file, and you won't have to do the right click thing every time...:)
