I'm a guy, and makeup is a turn off to me. I don't mind some mascara and lip gloss on a girl...but everything else is just too much.

It makes me feel like I'm looking at a clever mimic of the real person...like looking at a clown, or a mascot in a suit. I want to see a real person, not a mask over top.

What are the public's opinions?

Alot of different points made here, and that's what I was hoping for.

I never really thought about how makeup can act as a confidence boost. I feel so enlightened! I'll keep that in mind from now on, tho my original opinion hasn't changed.

It depends on the girl. Many girls feel sexy with some on, even if they already look good without it. It's a means of self expression and something that differentiates women from men (most of the time ;). It's fun.

While too much is the worst, most guys can't tell if a girl is wearing a bit of concealer, mascara or small amounts of eye liner. This will enhance her looks without actually looking like makeup. A sizable portion of the female population looks significantly better with a small amount of makeup than with nothing on.

Cover up actually makes the biggest difference in terms of how polished and put together a woman looks. But applied correctly, it might not show at all.

A note--there are times when full makeup is completely inappropriate (at the gym, when hiking) and there are times when it is almost necessary (in a professional environment, when going out, in dim lighting). Knowing when to apply it and how much and what kind can say a lot about a woman. :)

I confer; and it also depends on the person.
Many females look better natural whereas others need a little booster from the magical make-up
kits. But for some, it's merely an image/perception
thing. They're following fads and taking their cues
from celebrities. If they only knew that half the time
their favorite idols don't even bother to fix themselves up outside of publicity shots and
appearances they would feel so egged on.
Keeping it natural is keeping it real. Peace.

Different kinds of makeup look good on different types of people. Some people look better with little to no makeup. I keep mine natural and minimal 40's/50's style (like Dorothy Dandridge), just black mascara/and or black eyeliner, and if I'm wearing red lipstick then I won't wear eye makeup. But some people (like Aguilera) do the retro look NO justice at all she's doing it all wrong! And I'm honestly not afraid to be seen without makeup either.

the trick when applying make up is to make it look like yo are not wearing any. during the day i wear moisturizer and some lip gloss, but when i go out at night i wear more makeup. key to it is to enhance the beauty. I hate seeing chicks with real heavy makeup

Agreed.
I basically wear a bit of foundation to cover dark circles under my eyes from not sleeping enough, and lip gloss. If I'm feeling like doing something special I'll throw on *some* eyeliner.
But I have seen waaaay too many females (especially teenagers) who glob on a layer of goo to cover their face and proceed to paint raccoon eyes upon themselves. It scares me.

I think it is meant to enhance what nature has given, hide a few flaws but never over power the natural look of your face. If it takes more than 5 minutes to put on, it is too much!

Yeah I agree, but sometimes makeup makes a girl feel pretty and it gives us confidence. Too much just looks ridiculous though.

A little bit is fine, if your going somewhere special, but overall a lot of make up just takes away a person's natural beauty, and it makes them look really baaaaddd.

The less makeup, the better. Let the true beauty of the individual shine thru.
