A key feature of the Renaissance was the rediscovery of the literature and the art of ancient Greece and Rome. It's like they looked back at these things and said, "Hey, this was great stuff!" The Renaissance did not occur overnight. A few special people began to think for themselves and recreate art and literature over a couple of centuries before the ball really began rolling. One factor contributing was the commercial wealth of Italian city states. There was money which allowed leisure time for some. Rich people could afford patronage for full time artists like Donatello (1300s), Leonardo1400s to 1519), and the other Ninja Turtles.

Well, the idea is that when the Western Roman empire fell in 476 it marked the end of the Ancient Age and the beginning of the Middle Age. Knowledge was stored in monasteries and very few people could read.
When Constantinople fell in the hands of the Turks the 29 may of 1453, the monks had to escape and they went to Western Europe, carrying their knowledge with them.
A very important part of their knowledge was the ancient texts from Greece and Rome, with everything they knew.
