Christmas doesn't seem fun anymore. Don't really know how to surprise my adult children at Christmas. Any suggestions?

For Christmas this year I made the suggestion to my siblings that we all go in together and adopt a family instead of giving each other gifts. We are also getting our young children involved. I hope this will start a new tradition. Maybe your family will embrace this idea????

How about a really nostalgic gift? What was their favourite movie as a child? Why not buy this on DVD for them? Or did they have a favourite toy? See if you can find a modern version. Base a gift around things that they love, no matter how insignificant.

I love shoes, but my mum was sick of buying them for me every year. Instead, this year, she found a gift box and glued a picture of me on the front as a child wearing her shoes. Inside the box were two little crystal shoe ornaments - I loved it!

If christmas doesn't seem fun anymore you could try homemade gifts. These are so much fun to put together. All you need is a small basket or large clear jar, and fill it with things you know the gift reciever will love! I made my gift hampers into "COLD WINTER NIGHT KITS" and I filled them with candles, pot pourri, sachets of hot chocolate, luxuy biscuits, hand warmers etc.

They went down a treat and I really really reccommend them!Good luck!

It Depends On the Age, If You Wanna MAke Them Happy Money Can Never Fail. But People Say A "Gift" Seems More Thoughtful. But usualy doesn't matter. Music And Other Entertainment Is usualy The Top Choice.

Throughout the year your children will mention things that have an interest in. Just try to pay attention to those things.

I think it would be awesome if my mom were to try to get tickets to an event that is coming up or a new game I'd been wanting to get but couldn't afford. Also...

My mom still gives us stockings and in the stockings she puts the things we loved as children. Silly dollar store toys and Lifesaver candies, chocolates and a pair of funky socks (she always gives us a pair of brightly colored toe socks, cause they're just fun!!).

Good luck!

Assuming your adult children are close, you can always ask one sibling to get ideas for the other and so on.

But you could also bow out of gift exchanges. If it isn't fun for you, it might not be fun for them, either. My dad's side of the family went to a pull-the-name-from-the-hat approach a few years back. It's actually *more* fun - lots of conspiring to figure out what the other person wants, keeping it a secret who has which name, etc.

Here's my method for all gift-giving: budget about how much you want to spend. Then think what the person in question would do if they happened to find that amount in cash lying on the sidewalk or under the seat cushions. That's what to get them.

Amazon.com also as wish lists they can keep and you can secretly buy for them.

REMEMBER THE JOY IS THE GIVING. LISTEN TO YOUR CHILDREN YEAR ROUND, KNOW THEIR HOBBIES, FAVORITE BOOKS, MOVIES, ETC

WHEN YOU HAVE ADULT CHILDREN YOU NO LONGER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU SPEND ON EACH CHILD AND IS THE COST CLOSE, YOU SIMPLY GIVE THEM SOMETHING THAT GIVES THEM PLEASURE.

HERE ARE EXAMPLES:

MY OLDEST SON GOLFS, LAST YEAR I GAVE HIM GOLF BALLS, WITH DISNEY CHARACTERS, HE LOVES THEM.
COST 35 DOLLARS

MY DAUGHTER LOVES SCRAP BOOKING, I GAVE HER A BOX TO SORT AND SEPARATE PAPER AND OTHER SUPPLIES, IT ALL FITS IN A WHEELED CART. SHE TELLS ME MONTHLY HOW MUCH SHE ENJOYS IT. COST 90 DOLLARS

ANOTHER SON GOT AN IPOD. COST OVER 200 DOLLARS.

THERE WAS NEVER A WORD SAID ABOUT THE AMOUNT SPENT, AND THE YEAR BEFORE THE PRICES WERE JUST AS DIFFERENT, AND THIS YEAR THEY MOST LIKELY WILL BE AGAIN.

i read somewhere that men enjoy telling you just what they want and then actually getting it, they don't need a surprise, they are more interested in the getting part

same article said women are better off when they give you ideas and you pick your version of one of them, so some surprise, and if you can afford to, get the version that is better than what the woman could herself afford!
