NYU has a better reputation. As far as which is really better, well that depends on what attributes for which you are searching.

Well, here are the things to take into consideration: NYU has four seasons whereas USC is sunny all the time; NYU has a very nice campus and surrounding, USC has a exceptional campus but located in the ghetto of EAST LA; they both have 35000 dollar tuition per year, so cost is about equal. then if you want to be in sports, then USC is the way to go. there are many variables, specificity would provide much help.

Most places these days rank them similarly, so it really comes down to what you want to study, where you want to live, and which campus has an atmosphere with which you are more comfortable.
