I'll feed all of your curiosity. I was doing homework over the summer for a Chemistry AP class and a person I didn't even know wanted the homework to copy. Being the sucker I am I made a copy and gave it to him. So what is a person to do? How about...turn in the copy I gave him with my name scribbled out. Anyways apart from the drug investigation that should be going on I get a 0 on the homework, ouch but not crippling, and I get an account of "academic dishonesty" on my record.

How big of an effect does this have on college appliances? Please let me know why you think your answer is correct. I would appreciate this, thanks.

If it is on your transcript, you have a problem; if not, it won't affect your admission to college. The colleges don't ask for your entire file, just the transcript. The only other problem is that you may find it more difficult to get teachers to write your letters of recommendation for you.

Yikes!

I would appeal the decision, plead ignorance & temporary insanity to the dean, and beg forgiveness from the instructor.

I am an instructor and I allow my students to collaborate out of class. I expect the final product to be their own, but would never "hang" someone who copied homework. Was this an important grade?

Work towards for forgiveness. Let them know you've tried to "move past it" but the thought of academic dishonesty is haunting you day & night. You can't eat, sleep, study, and are now suspicious of all your classmates.

Good Luck!
