well, if you blind folded yourself for a day or a week, as per your capability then you would experience a different world beside sharpening your alternate senses. the same can be repeated by numbing any other part of your body. what do you say ?

I agree, as long as it is a long-term change. If you were to numb your more dominant hand for say, a year, you would increase the strength in your other hand. And if you were to blindfold yourself for a similar period of time, you would need to focus on your hearing, smell, touch, etc. It seems as though it's just your body's way of adapting to a different circumstance.

perhaps if you numb a part of your body could cause the brain to heighten other senses.. but I don't believe it would happen in a day.. the reason being is that even though the eyes may be closed or blinded artificially.. the brain still knows that you can see.. and is you just numb a part of your body, the brain still knows that that part of the body is still functional.. the brain would just wait you out..if you became paralized and the brain could not communicate with a certain part of the body.. that is a different story..

I think you are correct.

People who have had strokes and other brain injuries have been able to "train" or "transfer" body functions and thought processes to other parts of the brain away from the injured area.

I have a friend who is blind.....and has been since birth. He "sees" by smell and hearing. His sense of smell and hearing are far beyond what would be considered "normal". He also senses with his skin....particularly his bare arms, face and any exposed areas.

If the object is to heighten other senses, then numbing a part of your body would not necessarily do that. However, it would strengthen other parts and make you more aware of your surroundings in order to avoid getting hurt.

You can withdraw from the senses through meditation or a retreat and experience the difference.

No thanks. There are better ways to enlightenment.
But it is true empathy is most realized through strict actuality.
