The democrats standing up to bush, regarding troop withdrawal, would definitely be wishful thinking. HELL if the dems stood up to this administration for ANYTHING it would be great. So obviously bringing home our troops would be the perfect ending to this horrific ordeal. But it seems as if the Dems have lost sight of their original objective & have clearly compromised their integrity and credibility.
And I don't want to hear squat about not having enough votes. They need to be that annoying azz gnat buzzing in the ears of the repubs & the president. If you annoy them enough you will eventually get a response. Their objective needs to be: keeping the ball in the repubs court. By not actively persuing the matter, it makes it seem as if they have dropped the ball completely.
The lack of accountability (for the pres. & repubs) has really made the dems look bad.

It's got to be now or never. The longer Bush can delay the showdown, the less likely there will be one and we'll find ourselves in Iraq for another 5 years. The funding has to be plugged now but in such a way as to insure a safe withdrawal. Do it like the Marines did in their withdrawal from the Chosen Reservoir in Korea. We just advanced in a different direction.

You bet they are and so are a lot of the Republicans. That General speech was written and taken to him by Bush's speech writers and Bush delivered to him in Iraq on his little surprise visit. Don't tell me a General of the service want lie we just witnessed that yesterday with old General Patreaus.

All talk. the Dems don' dare cut a dime of spending.
Let one American soldier sufffer the least bit because of cuts in spending and the Dems will have more negative publicity than they ever dreamed possible.
The Reps could propose cuts in spending and them dems wpould be FOR increased spending.

NO, and they should not.
They will just play into the hands of the right wing.
They need to get smart about their media strategy before they try anything.
The rightwing lie machine called the mainstream media will massacre them if they cut off funding.

No. They can talk all they want, but if they actually cut the funding, media spin machine can be easily turned against them which can easily cost them election.

They've been ready all along, but still don't have the votes to do so. No point in starting a fight you can't win ... yet!
