I don't think much has been done to ASK the American people to "adapt to living with terrorism". Most seem to have no problem with the invasive provisions of the Patriot Act, and waiting at airport security checks points (although it raises grumbles), doesn't bother most people. Beyond that, the American people have been asked to do very little--there is no draft; taxes have not been raised (in fact, they have been lowered, the first time in history a tax break has come during a war); and we have not been asked to conserve anything (rationing was big during World War II). So, I don't think most people feel any tangible affects from the fact that we are fighting a "war on terror".

I also agree with the top answer. Compared to other countries that really had to adapt, we've come off easy.

Britain (with the long running IRA campaign) has how many public cameras now - 2000? 5000? 10000? Imagine that in the USA.

Israel has suffered extreme terror attacks - buses and discos blowing up, rockets fired into residential areas, etc. I can only imagine again how tight the security is clamped down there.

If more attacks come on US soil (and I think they will come), that's when the adaptation sh*t will hit the fan.

Americans face an ever-changing life ahead of them until they decide to ditch the 'political correctness' that binds them to the current standards regarding immigration and discrimination.

It's like inviting a wolf into your barn while you lock the sheep outdoors. With the current issues in the world, we have only elevated hate to a differnt level.

It's not a crime to be cautious.

9/11 was a major tragedy but there isn't anymore terrorism than before.

There has always been terrorism and always will.

i agree with the top answerer. now that i think about it. But we gave the terrorists the knowlege to do what they did, by allowing them into the country, and into our colleges. Then they took that knowlege back to their country and look what they did to us? I say it is our own fault for letting them into the country and allowing them to go to our colleges, and be in the US,and to do what they did.
