I think the seperatists were a sect of Puritans? I am not sure about all this, but the Puritans came from England (and Holland - alot traveled there before coming to america but when the second generation of kids started straying from their religion they moved to America where they could control them better). The Puritans didn not necessarily want to break from England, they just wanted to revamp some of the beliefs, which they thought were wrong. Seperatists wanted to break completely from the catholic church and england and be something totally Seperate.

no. Puritans are a religous group, Seperatists are political. Puritans wanted to get away from what they believed to be a corrupt church filled with corrupt believers who were all going to hell. Seperatists want to be apart from whatever political system they are in. A good example would be the South during and after the Civil War.

I'm having difficulty understanding what it is you are trying to ask.

1. The 'Puritans' were Calvanists.

2. Not all seperatists were Calvanists.

3. Not all Puritans (Calvanists) were seperatists.

So NO they were not the same people.

The Puritans who came across the Pond in the MAYFLOWER were not seperatists but they were Calvanists.

The puritans are separatists, which are English congregations that don't want to be in the Church of England, but not all separatists are puritans, the pilgrims for example.

No puritans r ppl who dont like the new church that Henry the VIII established just because he wanted a new wife. Separatists were like pilgrims looking for a new religion.
